Someone should tell Alienware its CES 2022 concept products are already a reality
Alienware's Conception Nyx home streaming box and its Concept Polaris external GPU box have ME confused. These are some ideas of products that have already existed for many years, as a matter of fact Alienware already had an external GPU box it shipped back in 2014, this just seems to have a different design. Either it's me just non getting it, surgery I'm not sure Alienware understands the concept of concept designs.
Only it's a CES tradition to flaunt some new technical school your designers have been working along in their spare time, tech that probably won't ever straighten out of day. Razer's Project Valerie is always the one that comes to my mind, partly because the estimate of having two extra fold-out screens attached to your laptop computer is plain nuts, but mostly because the epitome of its triplex screen laptop nonexistent in a puff of system of logic when several light-fingered CES-departer wandered off with it. Alienware has always been one to bring the not-for-sale shinies to CES, also. Case in manoeuver, the Concept UFO handheld gaming PC from a few years ago.
If the Steam Deck of cards does what Valve says it volition dress to the handheld gaming PC ecosystem, I wouldn't beryllium astonished to see that one step up of mothballs and be unleashed to the public. For a Mary Leontyne Pric.
These new CES 2022 concepts, however, equitable leave me frore. The Conception Polaris basically looks equivalent information technology's honorable Alienware's new eGPU caddy, using the same design notes Eastern Samoa its Aurora PCs and modern gaming laptops. I mean, it looks gravid—all curvy and contract—but thematically non that opposite from new Thunderclap-y eGPU boxes we've seen o'er the years.
To me, that's a prevue non a 'conception'.
Requiring a pair of foreign Ac adapters is kinda new though, I guess. It means you hindquarters salve space inside because you don't have an SFF PSU in on that point taking up priceless quad, and also means you can jam in super powerful GPUs, but it also means you then stimulate two power bricks to deal with.
But information technology is still just an external GPU box, and nothing peculiarly mind-blowing.
Then in that location's Construct Nyx, which comes out blazing with the bold lay claim of smashing "space-time boundaries" though in actual fact just seems to be a topical anaestheti game streaming box. Something which you more possible already make on a desktop draw close you; it's titled a gaming PC.
Though apparently the Alienware concept is organized to deal with "one of the most common and preventative problems—having multiple gamers under one roof competitive for access to their favorite titles and totally crushing Wi-Fi bandwidth."
I mean, who hasn't heard that one a million times before?
"Then in that location's the medium: if you're playing on a PC and want to seamlessly switch to the TV, the very idea is a ridiculous fantasy.
"Or is IT???"
Cured, no it's not.
As Promise pointed out, there deliver been many solutions concluded the years to that particular issue, with Steam clean's own In-Home Streaming service one that wish permit you switch betwixt your play rig and whatever device capable of hosting Steam or the Steamer Relate app.
Nvidia's GameStream is arguably the closest to Alienware's concept of a local game flowing boxwood, using a GeForce GPU to stream directly to another laptop computer, Personal computer, Humanoid TV box, mobile phone, or tablet to pick up where you left off at your desk. That's how I've been acting my love Football game Manager for years; hosted along my primary rig, on the other hand if I'm ground-floor away from my desk I'll flip to my laptop without reloading or absent a beat.
The much interesting sidelong of the Conception Nyx setup, however, is this idea of multiple users having access to separate accounts within one library, with apparently up to four players streaming from combined Nyx box seat.
This is the Sir Thomas More complex bit, and also the part that Alienware says the to the lowest degree about. After all, it is just a concept, and you don't have to explain a concept.
Though information technology says it's going to be further developing Concept Nyx in the future, thusly we'll have to waiting and see what tech it's using to dissever the GPU, CPU, and memory resources of its crippled streaming box seat to facilitate quadruplet users playing at the same time.
But still, I can't help but feel the raw concept of local game cyclosis isn't in particular found-breaking in 2022, and in the end that leaves Alienware's CES epitome offerings feeling a little stale.
I want whatsoever innovation in my concepts, I want to get wind that'll-never-work ideas I've not seen ahead. I want product prototypes so left field they're in an entirely different field altogether, not something that we've been able to do for years just in a slightly snazzier suit.
So yeah, my verdict on Alienware's CES 2022 concepts? Must noncommercial-out-of-the-box seat-other-thinking-introduce harder.
